Collection
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
A Life in Color
"My paintings come from my daily life - attempts to make sense of the world. They express my wishes & dreams, my sadness and frustration, as I explore life's dualities"
Mandie Colangelo grew up in Arizona in a family where creativity and drive ran side by side. She painted as a little girl, wrote music, & built her own business in fashion and design before finding her way back to the canvas.hen a significant personal transition arrived, she picked up a brush again & couldn't put it down. Colangelo works in the tradition of abstract expressionism, using street inks, acrylic, resin pigment powders, spray paint, fabric, and collage.
Some paintings feel like the surface of a planet no one has named yet. Others erupt entirely, reds and oranges surging against electric blues, gold threading through atmospheric fields.
Color is never decorative in her work. It carries weight. As she puts it, her paintings are attempts to make sense of the world and release what words cannot hold.
Colangelo is a mother of five, grandmother of three, & lives in Monterey, California, where she maintains her studio.
